The "crazy notion" that's floating around (and has been for decades) is not that it ferments in your stomach, but if you eat fruit following anything else , it will speed digestion up too much and you will have more gas and discomfort than you would from SF (or anything else) alone. Because fruit is digested faster than anything else. Personally, I think that if your digestive system is strong and your body is producing sufficient digestive enzymes, you should have no problem combining different types of foods. But our systems are impaired, and it's possible we are not producing sufficient digestive enzymes (since these decrease with age anyway). There may not be a huge body of evidence to back up the food combining theories, but our bodies are so different that what works for one of us will not necessarily work for everyone else.
