Colon cleansing is just a big scam. We do not have "gunk" in our intestines. The intestinal wall is made out of smooth mucous tissue, just like what's in our mouth and throat. Do you see any gunk when you open your mouth? No. The prep for a colonoscopy rids you of any fecal matter in your colon. Once that's out all that's left is smooth, pink tissue. No nasty gunk or buildup.

Now about all that nasty stuff that comes out of you while doing that cleanse: it's nothing else but clay. One of the common ingredients in these cleanses is bentonite which is impure clay. Once that gets mixed up with water and sits in your system for a while it forms all that "buildup" that comes out of you. It is very similar to the clay that potters use. So this stuff has never been in your intestine but you took it in while drinking the cleanse cocktail, and then laxatives (also part of the cocktail) make you push it out.

All of this sound very harsh on anyone's gut and I would strongly advise anyone with IBS to stay away from these cleanses.
