Well I'm new to this whole diet thing however...I've struggled with IBSd for ten years. It comes and goes for me and mostly I see a difference when I've been stressed. Over the years I've gone from drinking coke with no problem then overindulging (cause i love it)and then I go for a few months where I can't drink it at all. It's been hit or miss for me but before I found this web site, I pretty much knew most of my triggers (coke, dairy, My inlaws haha) I'm dumb sometimes too and eat the wrong thing knowing I'll pay later.Since getting onto this site I've tried some of the basics and I have really seen a difference.
Last summer I was doing fine and then I noticed a few times a month I was really ill.Anyway long story short I was told I had acid reflux and ate accordingly. My diet became very bland and by February I was barely eating anything.I dropped 20 pounds and was getting sicker.February landed me in the hospital for emergency surgery to remove my gallbladder. Docter told me I'd be able to eat anything WRONG. I've had xrays and a cat scan blood work and they say I'm fine so I figured it was my IBS acting up.Bingo. I've stoped eating my trigger foods and in just a few days have noticed a huge diff. Now I have to watch my fat intake because of my gallbladder but most of my symptoms have improved. Crazy huh?
well the reason I'm writing is because I've been following Candys posts and I have to say.WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? Follow the diet stay away from your triggers for just a little while!!!No it won't take forever just settle down your guts.Everything Heather says makes total sense.Anyone could tell you that some things usually bother their system. Relax and stick to simple foods.I haven't tried any recipes yet.I still cook everything I normally do.I just don't add butter or oil.Rice or baked potato with a bit of broth or salt. Chicken on the BBQ peas mixed with the rice.Snacks are simple. I always eat pretzels, arrowroot cookies with applesauce, dry cereal and toast with honey.I'm eating more now than before and I'm feeling pretty good. Not everyday is great but everyone including "normal" people have off days right? I miss tea the most but I'm waiting for my fennel tea so hopefully that will help. I don't plan to go vegan or anything but once things are settled down I'll try a few bites of steak or a small burger.I might pay the price but I am well aware of the consequences and won't be wondering why I'm in the bathroom. If you had diabetes or a disease that everyone knows about you'd suck it up and eat accordingly right? So this IBS sucks...deal with it. if you want to feel better eat better!!!
Tell me if I'm wrong but I know how difficult it is to change your way of thinking but a beef taco,an omelete, hashbrownsor a chocolate donut is like asking for trouble. We haven't eaten out in a long time...I don't miss it really at all..I've worked in the food industry..you don't have any idea what goes on in those places.

Anyway I just want to say that this is a great place to talk to others but if you aren't going to actually work on the problem and you're going to "cheat" before you've even begun then why bother?
