Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | peppermint caps causing D

I just ordered the peppermint caps a few days ago, and started taking them around lunchtime Saturday. I decided to try them because I've been having a lot of gas lately. I decided to take three a day, one before each meal, to see if that would help. Mid Sunday, I started having diarrhea. I had some peppermint tea and that seemed to help. on Monday, I forgot one for lunch and ate some soup that I had made that had some IF, but it was all pureed. My tummy started making grumbly noises within the hour, and I didn't have any BM for the rest of the day. Today I woke up and had some more D, and have been having it throughout the day. Also, since I was having a slight reflux effect, I made sure to take the pills today with as little water as possible and basically didn't drink anything until an hour later, when I ate. In the morning I felt a little pain and lightheaded, so I drank a little water and that made it feel better. Then, when I took one an hour before lunch, as soon as I smelled the food my tummy started making grumbly noises and hasn't stopped.

The big thing is, I don't normally have grumbly noises, but now my gas has decreased dramatically but I'm having these other problems.

Sorry this is so long, and sorry I haven't really introduced myself. I'm a full-time doctoral student (in music) and haven't had much time to really find out about IBS since I was diagnosed in September.

I'd appreciate any thoughts you might have.
