I read somewhere that reflux meds can have a negative effect on IBS but can't remember where I saw it or what the reason was. But I have gone to the emergency room twice over the last ten years with symptoms identical to heart attack and it turned out to be GERD so I think for now I'll stay on the meds till something better comes along.
