It's probably just a bit inflamed from straining. Hemorrhoids are like painful bumps around the anal opening--the really bad ones look like blood blisters! I have suffered from hemorrhoids a lot, and I dread it big time. For hemorrhoids, you can put an ice cube in a plastic bag (tie off the bag just above the cube.) Then apply that your bottom and keep it there till the ice melts. This can shrink the tissue.

If it's inflammation, the best thing I've found is to use an old soft wash cloth, folded, and soaked (and wrung out) in warm water. Apply this to your bottom after a bowel movement (or anytime it feels uncomfortable). Keep it on there for 5 minutes or so. This will relax the anal muscles and make it feel better. A tiny bit of vaseline is good, too.

It sometimes takes awhile to feel better, but it will eventually get back to normal.
