Sleep problems - Need Suggestions

I've been having problems sleeping for the past 6+ months, I thought it might be a side effect of the Robinul (2 mg, 2x a day) I have been taking for colon spasms/diarrhea. I spoke with my GI on Wednesday about my trouble going to sleep and staying asleep. He said that the Robinul would make me sleepy if anything, he didn't believe it was causing my problems. I have always been a heavy sleeper and used to only take about 30-45 to fall asleep at night. Now I lay in bed anywhere from 1-2 hours before I fall asleep, then I wake up about 2-3 times a night. This happens about 3-4 nights a week. My IBS seems to be under control, no D in 4 weeks and no pain as well. I had a colonoscopy back in August and my GI ran blood work for Crohns Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. It came back with "markers" for Ulcerative Colitis. GI said he didn't see any inflammation at the time of the scope, but felt I should be on medicine to help/prevent inflammation. I was prescribed Lialda this week, but I have not started it yet. I workout on an elliptical 6 days a week and just started strength training, 20 minutes 3 days a week. I've been taking Melatonin and I've also tried SleepMD which has melatonin and other natural stuff in it. They stop working after awhile. I've tried changing my routine at night, so that my mind knows that I'm ready to sleep but it still didn't help. I'm due to see my regular doctor the first part of February and I plan to bring up the sleeping problems. I've read through some of the old post about insomnia and I think I will try to limit my sugar/carbs in the evening. I went from using products sweetened with Splenda to using table sugar. I didn't take into consideration that the sugar may be affecting my sleep. I welcome any suggestions you may have to help me get more restful nights sleep.
