I just take it a couple of times a month now (usually .5 - 1 mg)and when I go flying. Usually, it's for panic attacks, since I don't get the really bad IBS attacks anymore. I've never taken it for more than two days in a row because I'm also worried about getting dependent on it. My doctor said that I'd have to take it regularly for about a month to become dependent on it, which is different from addiction, but I still don't want to rely on it for everything, you know? Anxiety is part of life, it's just the really bad panic attacks that I need to stop.
I think I've probably been suffering from panic attacks since I was 17, but didn't seek any type of help for it until I was 28. I spent a lot of time trying to hide it from people and treat it naturally...I just wish I had asked for a doctor's help because I missed out on a lot in life. Also, I think part of it was due to having lupus and flare-ups in my IBS when the lupus flared but having no diagnosis. Very frustrating, stressful time!
I think if you need to take it for a while and you're under a doctor's supervision, you should be fine. I would just recommend taking the minimum dose to get you through the day/event.
