My roomie's bf decided to make grilled steak (and chicken) and my roomie tossed in some chopped carrots, zuchini (I forgot how to spell zuchini lol), and brocolli in some foil to grill too. My roomie rarely eats red meat so her and I had the boneless, skinless chicken breasts (which I specified) and my roomie also made mashed potatoes with milk and butter and skin. She'd left the skin on half the potatoes she cooked and peeled the other half. So I had to mention I needed a separate bowl of peeled potatoes. So I just mashed mine up with salt and pepper (I love pepper!), and the chicken was just seasoned with some season salt, pepper and garlic powder and the veggies were plain. So I had a big bowl of mashed potatoes, a chicken breast, and a fairly large helping of veggies. It was really good, but that steak...I had to steal a bite of my bf's steak even though I shouldn't have.

But he'll buy stuff like Cheese Nips or Cheese-Its and eat REAL cheese on his quesadillas, and he'll buy real ice cream and he'll make real milkshakes...oh and it drives me batty! He'll also eat cookies made with milk and eggs.... Yes, I'm totally hating it, so I really understand where you're coming from.

No, I'm not really stable either, haven't been consistently stable for more than a month at a time.

I found some soy ice cream and ice cream treats that I can eat, but they are not cheap at all. I can usually make a smoothie that's safe for me, but I do miss the real stuff.

I keep telling myself, though, that even if it wasn't for my IBS, I'm still eating more healthy (I hope!) and I count my lucky stars I'm not allergic to gluten, soy, or nuts.

It's expensive to buy some substitutions, but overall it's more economical and cheaper to make stuff homemade, then you know what goes in it. Lean pork seems to be ok for me. Beans are ok for me too. But sometimes I don't always trust restaurant or fast-food types of foods whose ingredients I'm not certain of.

Good luck, you're not alone! *hugs*
