Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | Is intolerable pain the norm for IBS...

I just picked up "Eating for IBS" a couple of days ago and I am so grateful for the information that it provides.

I find it particularily interesting that I haven't had the full diagnostics run by my doctor (I have an appointment on Tuesday and I am going to ask her the questions that I found on this site. Thanks Heather!

Anyhow, I've followed the diet that my doctor recommended and I found that the abdominal discomfort has been coming and going, though the discomfort has been worse when it is around.

I've noticed that a lot of IBS sufferers experience a fair amount of pain, which I haven't experienced. I would describe my experiences mostly to be gas, discomfort, nausea and bloating with occasional constipation and heartburn.

Actually I'll just list my symptoms, because I'm curious to see if anyone actually shares these symptoms:
-Sore left side from lower abdomen up to the bottom of my ribcage.
-Lower back pain/discomfort on my left side.
-Gas, occasional nausea, bloating
-stools that start out quite hard but end quite loose, or hard stools alternating with loose ones (I feel a little odd sharing this with the general public.) I haven't really dealt with diarrhea or constipation on either extreme though for a long time... Not since I was a teen and in my early, early twenties.

Because these symptoms are not classic IBS symptoms, I'm wondering if there's anything else that I should bring up to my doctor.
