Just Introducing Myself...

Hi everyone. I didn't know where else to introduce myself so I figure I post it on here.

My name is Wendy and I'm 33 and I've just been diagnosed with IBS. I noticed a change in my BM about 1.5 year ago, but had sporadic symptpons prior to that. Mostly I would just chalk it up to something I may've eaten. (Eventually and to this day, I don't go outside of my house unless I have to go to work, laundry, or food shopping. When did I become this person???)

On December 13, 2006, I had to leave work about 2 hours after I got there because all of a sudden my stomach acted up and I was in mid-Breakfast! I live in NY so taking the 1/2 hour subway home was an odyssey. Since then, I noticed I started to feel anxiety when I was either on the train, at work--anywhere that wasn't home.

By February, I wound up having a colonoscopy and the tests proved inconclusive since everything looked peachy (except for a teeny hemorrhoid that I know I probably gave myself from making myself go before going to work--yeah, that's what it came down to.) I seemed ok for a couple of days but still, I always had the feeling to go but it would be a false alarm or it would be loosey goosey.

I could no longer stand my little pangs of anxiety and finally last month I had an endoscopy done. The only thing found there were lacerations in my stomach and learned that I have acid reflux. I'm on Omeprazol to repair the lining of the stomach and have to avoid acidic foods (kill me now--or so I thought). Yet I still had the crampy, spastic stomach thing going on.

Blood tests and a gall bladder sonogram showed that I'm healthy as an ox. I saw my GI doctor last week (god bless him for being patient!) and he gave me a little "You're Not Alone" brochure where he pointed out the link to this site on the back of the brochure. Needless to say, I left his office down in the dumps because apparently, there is no cure for IBS.

I finally get home (I had to fight my anxiety going and coming!) and checked the website. After reading the testimonials and the text from someone who seems to know what she's talking about, I started to feel better mostly because I wasn't alone after all. I've since ordered the Hypnosis CDs, Fennel and Peppermint Teas (though I can't do the Peppermint yet because of the acid reflux--I'll ask my GI Doc about the Peppermint pills), and the Acacia with both the Eating for IBS and First Year of IBS books. I'm very excited to have opened this website--it's like the light at the end of the tunnel (I'm keeping my fingers crossed!)

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum but thank you for taking the time to read it.

- Wendy
