Yes, you do gradually up the dose, as it depends on how much your body reacts with it. I take a supplement that has 150mg magnesium per tablet. The recommended dose is 1-3 tablets. I take 2-3 tablets at night, depending on how C I am. But - I have just started taking a calcium magnesium supplement, too, which also has 150mg magnesium per tablet, so I would take one calc/mag tablet with food early evening, then 2 tablets of mag citrate before bed. I don't exceed the recommended dose.

I take it every night, but it doesn't work like a laxative and guarantee a BM next day. Sometimes, it takes longer, depending on diet, hormones etc. But it is very gentle and I think, as it acts as a muscle relaxant, helps with the pain.
