Hello all, After tons of tests last fall and raging IBS all last fall, I had another Epidural Steroid Injection 3/28/07 for back pain.
I had 2 last year before I joined this group and only now do I see the relation between those kind of shots and my IBS raging. This one was by a new pain doc because the pain management doctor who I saw last summer stopped practicing-or at least stopped drving a 130 miles RT to practice here.
So I tried finding someone else, actually I tried to go to a Neurosurgeon. He refused to see me because of what I call political reasons, and through the back door by word of a friend I learned he wants the referral from my current orthopedist who basically has done nothing new to help me in a long, long time. My PCP got me to the new Pain Management doc.
Within 1½ hours of the injection I was in as much pain as labor pain. Within 36-48 hours the IBS started raging and I could not keep anything but water and gatoraid in my stomach for 8-10 days. Yes I lost weight.
This seems to be followed by increased IBS symptoms until the steroid drugs wear their way out of my system---like months.
So I know how to eat for the IBS, but right now the pain is almost unbearable as that injection was to be the first in a series of 3........and has not helped.
I have sought help from my PCP's nurse practioner today and she says it is an orthopedic problem......... Don't I have the right to change doctors if the ortho offers no help that does not debilitate me with IBS??? G
