I've had ibs for 35 years...I am 46. It was debilitating during my school years and interfered with my professional life...you know the story. To complicate things I was treated for ulcerative colitis back in the early 90's. This was successful but then in past several years I have had several bouts of diverticulitis...fever..rushed to hospital and treated with antibiotics. No surgery yet. Since the diverticulits I believe my bowels have essentially shut down. It feels as if the electrical impulses from my brain don't allow the intestines to work. So I would have long bouts of constipation with violent episodes of cramping and diarreah as my body needed to expel everything. Doctor (GI) and family doc could not help. They kept telling me to use fibre and eat high fibre and I only got worse.

Last year I discovered the website and began using Acacia and Fennel tea as well as peppermint tea when sick. I try to use the diet and do pretty well. These things are changing my life...my husband can't get over how I can actually eat out now without getting violently ill for days afterwards.

Currently, I am less constipated and have dramatically less sick days. Now, however, I am having several small bowel movements a day...sometimes every time I go to the bathroom. I feel like my bowels are coming back to life but I am aiming for just one or two bowel movements a day. I take about two to three teaspoons of acacia a day....when I increase it i get gassy. Maybe I increase too much. I drink two cups fennel tea a day. I can eat only small amount of insoluble fibre and absolutely not grains or seeds.

Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated. I have never been able to discuss this so openly and I am grateful.

Blessings to you!
