I eat pea soup all the time, but not everyone can handle it. Unfortunately, beyond the known trigger foods (artificial sweeteners, high-fat foods, dairy, etc), there is no set "avoid this" and "eat this", because everyone's body is a little bit different.

But legumes are notoriously gassy, so...

It can be lessened and made easier on the guts by
1 - Always make sure to eat some white bread (no butter!) beforehand.
2 - Try Beano, which may help.
3 - Make sure the soup doesn't contain any trigger foods! Pea soup should be "green" or vegetarian, with no pork products or dairy in it.
