I finished Mahoney's self-hypnosis tapes in January and wanted to post my unsatisfactory results. I followed through with the entire program without skipping any of the scheduled days (which meant taking it on a camping trip for a few days, lol) and haven't noticed any improvement from the sessions really. However, I read one of the research postings on this site earlier this year that found males with diarrhea to be the only tested group to show little to no improvement in IBS symptoms using hypnotherapy. I am indeed a male with chronic diarrhea predominant symptoms, and while the sessions were quite relaxing, they provided no long term benefits that I have found so far. Having read so many success stories regarding the use of Mahoney's self-hypnosis in other IBS subgroups, and finding that my results concur with those of this particular research study, I would probably not recommend this program to other males with diarrhea (which seems to be a serious minority in the field of IBS sufferers...anyone else out there???). Otherwise, I would highly recommend it for stress management if that is a big player in your symptoms, and also for any other IBS subgroup since it appears to have a superior record of success with them. Congrats to all of those for whom the therapy worked, I'm envious!
