I think that can be done in the doctor's office. Otherwise, the prescription hydrocortisone cream is more effective than over-the-counter Preperation H. Has he done a sitz bath for the pain? You can buy one at any drug store for about ten bucks. The idea is to soak your bum in warm water several times a day. This is soothing. If he has a tub at home he can just use that. Also, it's a good idea to wipe with lubricated tissues (can also buy these at the drug stores in the toilet paper section). Witch hazel dabbed on the outside of the anus is helpful for inflammation.
