I've been addicted to coffee for over 40 years. About 4 years ago, I cut out the stuff at Heather's very strong recommendation, and, although it sure wasn't easy to do, I got better. I tried the rocomojo and the teccino and the other substitute, which I won't discuss here for historical reasons, and I'm here to tell ya, there just really ain't no substitute for the real thing.
I'm stable now; my IBS is pretty much in remission, and I am back on real coffee once again -- but it's gonna be short-lived. I am seeing a nutritionist as a result of my heart attack, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, diverticulosis, hypothyrodism, yaddah yaddah yaddah, and I'm sure she'll be taking me off all caffeine and stimulants of any kind. I know this because the book she has me reading specifies no stimulants.
My nutritionist is awesome. She took one look at my food journal -- volume EIGHTEEN, thankyouvery much -- and the first words out of her mouth, after discovering I have IBS in addition to all the above, was: "NO WHEAT." So far, I haven't been taken off the coffee, but I know it's coming. One step at a time, and right now, it's the wheat. No wheat, no gluten. And damn if I don't feel better already. Despite having my daily morning coffee, I haven't had an IBS attack OR A DIVERTICULITIS ATTACK in a long time. I'm scheduled for another colonoscopy with the aim of surgically removing a part of my colon next month, but I'm thinking I may not need it, thanks to this new diet.
BTW, I'm off all hydrogenated crapola, and my nutritionist increased my veggie intake to at least 2 cups a day, as well as more fruit, a lotta beans and legumes, and, believe it or not, real butter. Go figure.
Oh, and there really IS a God after all! She has me on dark chocolate -- that's right, folks, dark chocolate -- several pieces a day, provided it's at least 70% cacao. Now this is an eating program I think I can handle!
Damn, I sure got off the subject of coffee! Sorry. Listen, if it really bothers you, try Soy Dream Mocha Fudge frozen dessert. If you do a search you'll find a million posts about the stuff. It's awesome. It contains a little bit of coffee, but doesn't disturb the colon at all. It truly satisfies a coffee craving -- well, maybe a little. It tastes 100% like real coffee. Enjoy!
