The only thing I would add is that my husband did NOT have an overgrowth of bacteria but the rifaximin still helped him, and at the time he took it - it was prescribed for only 3 days. If you're desperate for help, I don't think it hurts to give it a try. Our GI doctor felt the same way. This time he will try it for the prescribed 10 days. His only side affect last time was nausea.
