This is an old post so not sure anyone will see this, but I was given this for what my doctor 'thought' was a stomach bacteria infection. For those of us with IBS-C it was the most horrid experience I ever had. I took it for the first time one tab 2 times a day. 200mg. 3 days. Then since it didn't really take away the infection completely or the symptoms of what felt like an infection I took it again for 3 days only this time I took it 3 times a day instead of 2. Well, after I was done, yes the feeling of the bacteria infection was gone. I was left with the worst cause of constipation. I took Milk of Mag which works wonders for me. However, this time I experienced gas, sweats and a stool that refused to come out. When it finally started to come out half of it wouldn't move. I had to manually take out the BM (beyond gross and first time for me) and then finally stools were released. 3 days later I was back to constipation. Bloat. Stomach extension and believe it or not some weight gain. I'm really tiny and stayed on the same diet so was surprised how much it changed my entire body. This has gone on since August. It's now October and I finally saw a Gastro since my regular doctor ran out of options. He just gave me VSL#3 Probotics in hopes that will help the flora which this antib. wipes out. For IBS-C I'd be very afraid to ever try it again, though I do admit the symptoms of the infection were relieved the first day. For those with IBS-D probably work wonders for you. If I can help anyone from having to go through what I'm going through with this post I'd be so glad because I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever be the same. That is one powerful antib!
