I completely hear you...I am IBS-D and have the other major concern that I can barely be sure I won't have to go so urgently just to drop my son off at school at 8:45. Getting up early does help b/c you'll get a sense of how stable your stomach is that day, but if you're like me, the second I wake up, I am stressing so bad about it that my stomach starts turning despite any medicine, preventative techniques, etc...it really stinks to have to "wait it out" for everything. I never make early morning appointments for anything...not even the doctor. Anyhow, I suppose you could try to muddle through but I feel like I have done this through about a trillion scenarios over the past 12 years and always felt miserable, secretly hiding my anxiety and wishing to be normal. Part of me wants to say to lie (since it doesn't sound like you are close enough with these people to open up) and give an excuse as to why you need to take a separate car and meet up with them wherever you are going. My close girlfriends (5 of us) do a girls' weekend every so often but they know my deal and are willing to stop in the woods if need be so that puts me at ease. But if you don't feel comfortable sharing, I would opt for the "meet up with you" fib so you'll rid yourself of the physical and mental anxiety but you can still be part of the trip. That will help you be less stressed about the ride home too and what you eat while you're there if it is two days. I don't know where you're going...once it was so ridiculous that I drove by myself to a shower 5 hours away just b/c I couldn't bare the thought of driving with my in-laws (who I like...just wouldn't understand) for all those hours. Good luck.
