Hey guys!
I haven't posted on here in a little while, but some of you may remember me from my copious postings last summer. In any case, I am doing a lot better and getting ready to go to a huge desert art party called Burning Man. Has anyone ever heard of it? http://www.burningman.com if you are interested. It's an incredible experience and I went two years ago and three years ago and had the most amazing time of my life.
But i am feeling really nervous this year. I didn't go last year because of my IBS and because my school started the same week. This year my school starts a week later. I am so grateful that I get to go, but a lot of fear is coming up as well.
Bascially when I'm out there, my IBS flares up BIG TIME. Not only is it zillions of degrees out there (on a dried up lake bed in the Nevada desert), but it's also crazy, there's so much intense energy and party energy (I never use any substances but many people do), and there are always tons of guys there I have crushes on or that I've hooked up with- which makes me really nervous.
AND, there are only porta poties. They are always cleaned, but still gross. And no showers.
This may be a nightmare to many of you, and it is to me in some ways, but the good far outweighs the bad for me.
But the anxiety still comes up....
So I was wondering if I could get some suggestions from ya'll for realy intense situations, how to get some control?
These are the things I am going to do, PLEASE let me know if you can think of more:
1. Make sure my living strucutre (a big 8 person tent all to myself) is a safe and sacred space.
2. Eat similiar things to what I eat at home. You cannot refrigerate anything there, so I have to bring all non-perishables. Can you guys think of safe foods that are non-perishables? I was thinking oatmeal, ak-mak crackers, durable veggies like carots, potatos, not sure what else. Soups in boxes (Imagine soup), tuna in cans, salmon jerky, gosh, not sure what else I can really eat out there. But the important thing is to not start eating weird camping foods from other people when I'm out there.
3. Make sure I sleep enough, like bring some sleeping pills with me.
4. Bring Immodium AD in case it gets bad.
That's all I can think of! Let me know if you can think of more!!!
