Hi Abi, Boy, oh wow are our stories similar. I was diagnosed
IBS-C in Feb.2005 too, and my first year was dreadful just
like yours. At times, I didn't think I was going to make it.
I too could not work. Fortunately, I had enough accrued sick
time to cover the semester I had to take off from teaching.
Now, I have daily BM's in the morning, but not normal, just
like you. Recently, they've gotten better though, except
for travelling this weekend, ugh. Ok, right now I'm doing
about 25 grams of Miralax per day, and I'm on 37.5 mg of
Paxil(an SSRI).For breakfast, I have a 1/4 of a grapefruit
and a bowl of oatmeal with about a 1/4 cup of dried blue-
berries in it, and 12.5 g's of Miralax in 8 oz of apple
juice. After that I lift weights and do 75 situps. The
situps seem pretty key because I usually have a complete
clearing BM within an hour of doing them. I swim at noon
and do about 20-25 laps. This helps a lot too. It really
helps settle my stomach. Right after that I eat lunch which
is an apple followed by a small salad with a good amount of
IF in it. I typically put a couple of tablespoons of chick
peas in it. Then a soy yogurt, oatmeal cookie(or 2:)) and
a 12oz cappacino to wash it down(I cheat a little bit

).
I typically eat dinner around six. I start off with a piece
of french bread then a main entree of chicken(or fish) and
brown rice with some additional IF in it. Then a little
dessert. I don't drink a whole lot of water during the day,
about 48 oz. There's no need to drown yourself like others
say. Well, there you have it. If you try my strategy, let
