Re: Anyone had an endoscopy without sedation?       06/15/06 01:55 PM Edit Reply Quote belinda Reged: 10/09/03 Posts: 474 Loc: Toronto, Ontario, Canada I haven't had one, but as I understand it they don't need to sedate you ... what they do is give you a powerful tranquillizer (valium?) and you are awake for the entire procedure albeit very relaxed! I've heard that the worst thing about this procedure is the feeling that you can't breath as they put the tube down your throat. My recommendation is to go the tranquillizer route so you can achieve your goal of being awake while, at the same time, you won't care what the hell they are doing to you!
