Yes, asking to check your antibodies should do or just directly ask for the test.Your family doctor can do this test. I have had this disease for about ten years now and it was the nurse who suggested getting my antibodies checked. I had a huge goiter,lost hair and had put ten pounds on and yet my TSH came back normal. Also ask for a copy of the lab. The normal range is pretty wide and you may be near the end. I like to keep myself pretty low. I know what makes me feel normal. Do you have any other signs besides the weight gain? If you do have it than with meds you will be fine and will give you more time to deal with your IBS! If case you think it is related to IBS, it is not. I have had IBS now for about 18 months now and have a great gastro. I just do not want you to get your hopes up and think your IBS will be cured if you get your throid under control because it won't.
