The single-use water bottles (that you find at the grocery store) are not designed for multiple use. I read about bacterial growth among other issues ( but it also seems like everything lately could do you in, so take this with a grain of salt!). A Nalgene bottle costs $5-7 at any outdoor store. This or any good-quality plastic water bottle that you can wash out after each use seems safer to me.
