I never did get to that post abt. my problems and how heart healthy your diet is.........as have found out just recently.
Unfortunately, my hubby went in for an angiogram this Mon. and ended up having angioplasty. Had had an angiogram a few yrs ago and NOTHING showed! No problems AT ALL!!!!!! Only symptom he had at all then and now was that his heart skipped some and so, he went thru all the tests and they put him on metroprolol back then after the lst angiogram.

But it was skipping more lately, so his doc. sent him immediately (rite fr. his office to the Cardiologist!!!) who did put a 24 hr. EKG on him that same day....last Fri. That was fine.......! Also his BP is low........126/83......., used to be even lower! His pulse runs ard. 56-58 w/the metroprolol.....but in real lo 60's w/out. (This part I left out of what I wrote to Heather...darn: His doc has had him on med to lower cholesterol altho that was only abt. 175 before med. His Mom lived to 92 and the only thing was that his brother had a heart attack at age 39 and then another yrs later. This is why my hubby .........who has always been in GREAT HEALTH!!!!!! was concerned and it SURE WAS A GOOD THING!!!!!!!)

We expected all to be fine w/angiogram, BUT he had a 99% blockage and they did the angioplasty at that time. WAS QUITE A SHOCK!!!!!! This is putting it mildly!!!! He also has 2or 3 other 30-40 or 40-50 % blockages that they w/keep a close eye on! Thank heavens he went!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

His Doc doesn't mess ard. Saw him last Fri. & he went rite fr there & had the 24 hr EDK put on. As soon as results were back, had stress test, & even tho that and all the rest I've mentioned was FINE......., the Cardiologist thought it might be a good idea to do another angiogram and since we were planning to go to FL very soon, did it 1st thing...6am Mon. AM.

I was so sick fr. no med for IBS and practically NO SLEEP for exactly one week that I couldn't even take him and even tho I (WE) REALLY THOT he'd be fine.......I certainly felt very bad abt. that. Our daughter took off a day fr. her teaching job. She had to do sub plans Sunday cause there was no way she could get into school before 6am Mon. to unlock her plans and have them ready for the sub.

Well..........he is doing just great so far! He came home the next day. WHAT I WANT TO TELL EVERYONE is that this is the same diet that they use for heart patients, except that he must limit salt too.....! So maybe there is a good side to IBS in a sense. Besides info on your site can WELL be used for heart patients,.........eating the IBS way of eliminating fat in meat (sticking more to chicken, turkey & seafood), and avoiding milk products is so helpful and will save MANY lives, especially if started when young which I see so many IBS victims are. So......I just want to tell everyone abt. it and sure hope it HELPS!!!!

Never did say how my IBS tests turned out. Only test they did do was for gluten....which I KNEW I wasn't allergic to anyway cause I eat it ALL the time w/no problems. We both had colonoscopys and his was fine, cept for diverticulosis, which he has had. They found 3 polyps in mine & removed them, but no diverticulosis. I have to go back in 3 yrs for repeat procedure. Originally the GI said 5, but when the tests came back he said in 3 yrs. since all 3 were adeometous ?SP. You probably don't remember, but my Internist wouldn't give me ANYTHING........when I started having the real bad D trouble July 4.....even tho she had had me on Librax 2 x da in the past. BUT the prescription had run out as it was time for my prescription renewals and she wouldn't give it to me. I used promenthazine (Phenegen) which helped some that the doc. in FL had given me when I'd had D trouble after being on Levaquin for quite a while.

When I FINALLY saw the GI, he put me on 1/2 Levbid at bedtime which only caused me to be dizzy, weak, exhausted and gave me heart palpitations. THIS WAS EVEN THO I had put down that I was allergic to anything w/adrenaline, any upper like Nodoz, Triaminic, caffeine........, etc. I wrote in DETAIL on the sheet!!!!!!!!!!

At time of hubby's colonoscoy was when he told me of my results..........which was 3 wks or more later and I told him of my problem w/Levbid which I had stopped taking by then. THE INSTANT I STOPPED TAKING IT , I felt SOOOOOOOO much better the next day. Like a changed person.....almost human again and then used the promenthazine which helped w/the pain. Actually I think part of the sleeping problem was going off the prom....... (a side effect), PLUS THE FACT that I was so MAD cause he'd said have your internist call me and I said she wouldn't. He reiterated to HAVE HER CALL ME! She STILL wouldnt'. I saw her for a flu shot and I didn't say anything.......BUT SHE MENTIONED out of the blue THAT SHE WOULD NOT CALL HIM.......!

And......so it went......until I FINALLY got appt. w/him for yest. which they upped to Tues. late. My daughter had to take me as I didn't dare drive w/no sleep and this news re my hubby. Was gonna wait till Thurs. as had told them of the emergency and for once they showed some compassion. But went and he put me on Librax 3x day and I seem to be doing pretty well as far as the pain. The internist I had before this one, had me on it 4 x day and I did very well. I'd been on it for yearsssssssss! Then got the GERDS which is how I got to the GI in '99 and had endoscopy.

Anyway they never did anymore tests.......neither doc...my reg doc had done metabolism & lipid for electrolytes. That was all and said to see the GI which took 3 mos........! I DID finally get the GI office to send me for lactose intolerance, but..........I DECIDED NOT TO GO.....as I know milk bothers me and I SURE DIDN'T WANT TO GET ANY SICKER AT THAT TIME. All this waiting and no med had surely aggravated my condition.........! No energy to do anything and you get weak as a result of that!!!!!!!! The GI's PA told me that if you had just ONE formed stool it couldn't be hpylori or c-difficle. Who knows........!!!??? Neither of them did a stool culture, altho the doc in FL had,but I didn't know what all it shows but it must have been tested for more than blood. I'd like an answer to this, if you know it?????

Well......that's my story and I hope some of the info in here will REALLY be a help to MANY OTHERS!!!!!!!

W/c & p it to them.

Heather, I don't think you'll ever know just HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE your HELP!!!!!!! Can never thank you enough.

OHHHHHH......before I forget, my IBS started a month or so after having a hysterectomy. I always thought it was from that!!!!!!!!!! When I saw the GI Tues., he had an intern in w/him and guess what! When I mentioned that I thought the hysterectomy caused it........he gave that knowing nod......as if to say "Looks like more verification that this is often the cause of IBS." Appeared to me he had heard it in med school!!!!!!!!! So.......maybe they are learning. I also wrote to Kree and Berky who r are also in this town and can't find GI docs they like abt. an IBS -D study that I saw in the paper. Hopefully they are paying more attention to it NOW!!!!!!!!!!! It does appear that way!!!!!

Just in case you don't see this show up for the others, it w/mean that I wasn't able to c & p it and I would really appreciate it if you would in that case.

Almost forgot..& this wasn't in the 1 to Heather either ( he has been feeling tired for awhile but then he's always working so hard and I don't know how he's gotten by on 5 hr/nite for yrs. ANYWAY......he's doing REALLY WELL, even driving a bit which w finally saw today that he shouldn't have been doing for 4 das. It's REALLY AMAZING WHAT THEY CAN DO THESE DAYS!!!!)

(So.......I think there are benefits to the IBS diet besides helping IBS......it's great for the heart. My grandfather, on my Mom's side, was a vegetarian and lived to almost 94. He never sat still a minute. On the other hand, my grandma, his wife, worked like a dog too and......died at 65. Had a stroke and went fr. there. Nobody in her family lived to be as old as she tho and there were ....am trying to count em......6 or 7 , I think. So.......some is in the genes too, I believe, but a good diet can help reverse alot of this. Anyway, that's what I believe. I've been doing Genealogy mostly on my Dad's side......since it involves so many families & am very SURPRISED to see how long the Chase men lived. They all lasted well into their 70's, but I think it's cause in those days you didn't buy your food at the store w/all the junk added in and .....many were farmers and ALL worked hard to say the least. So..... am sure exercise makes a big difference. Well enuf of this......but Genealogy is fascinating and a great way to take your mind off your troubles esp. if you can't get out!!!!!! That and playing bridge on the computer )

Just hope this info helps somebody or REALLY A TON OF SOMEBODYS!!!!!!!

Marnie

Thanks again........!
