Waking from a deep sleep - supposedly "not an IBS symptom", but how many of you do it? Cures?

I'm having real problems sleeping - because of BMs, pain or gassy bloating I don't usually make it to bed til 2am ish - when I'm so exhausted I fall asleep anyway. I'm going to try to remedy that over the next 2 weeks by introducing daily exercise, but my other problem is that very often (like 3 times a week) I am woken from a deep-ish sleep by either severe abdominal pain or the urgent need to race to a toilet and have either D or a gas-powered normal-ish BM. I keep reading time after time, in book after book, that this is NOT an IBS symptom - as IBS is a bowel disorder, and bowels 'go to sleep' when we're asleep so shouldn't be working or hurting. I keep being told by books and websites that this is a 'red flag symptom' for more serious illnesses, but I've had colonoscopy and endoscopy, with no findings from either, so surely that can't be possible?

Somewhat confused by this, and annoyed that it keeps happening. How can I stop something that starts when I'm asleep??! Was woken at 6am this morning with crippling stomach pains, sat on toilet for next 2 hours doubled over and with D. And so now I feel like crap .

Anyone any ideas?
