I know Heather(and others) has stated this in both books and on this site I am just re-enforcing the "rule". This long story begins St. Patty's Day weekend when an IBS-D attack happened. I knew it was the Guiness I drank and thought I would be feeling better Sunday - Monday at the latest. Well I didn't and after almost two weeks eating rice I called my family doc. I explained my problems and how they were different than before, more upper GI pain first, bloating, then D later that day or the next. She looked at my records and tests, couldn't give me an answer, but scheduled me for an Upper GI ultrasound and an appointment with a new GI doc. After reading Heather's book The First Year in 2003-04 I made a GI apppointment. In 2004 I thought I did all the tests, colonoscopy, etc. After I read my medical records from the first GI I was not tested for Celiac Sprue and I couldn't tell from the notes if gallstones were ruled out. I found out on Monday that I do have gallstones and today I had the EGD done to rule out Celiac Sprue or anything else. The point to this long and rambling story? DO NOT self diagnose and if your IBS attack is different then usual see your doctor. I am so glad I did!
