IBS symptoms or a virus?

Today, not for the first time, I was awoken in the early morning by extreme nausea and abdominal pain. I live in a dorm, and I was sitting on the bathroom floor for about an hour waiting to throw up. It was the worst nausea I've ever experienced, including when I've actually been sick, but I didn't actually throw up. I don't know if this is beacause I took ginger or I'm just good at willing myself not to be sick (I'm phobic of vomiting) or what. The nausea passed after a while, but I've been suffering from severe abdominal pain and tenderness all day. I'm not what I would consider bloated, and I don't think my abdomen is at all swollen. It feels like all of my intestinal tissue is inflamed and irritated, and touch and pressure andywhere on my entire abdomen is very painful I've taken ginger, fennel, charcoal, gas-x, hyoscyamine sulfate (a generic for some kind of anti-spasmodic), but nothing has really helped. I don't know if this is consistent with IBS symptoms, or if it's something else. I do get frequent nausea, but not nearly this bad. Has anyone experienced these symptoms?
