I have GERD, but have been sucessfully treated. As long as I continue my medication, I can have many acidic foods sucessfully--but in small amounts. When you say they are triggers for you, do you mean that they cause D, or that you just get acid reflux from them? I have found that the benefits of peppermint far outway the adverse reaction--I do get heart burn sometimes from the peppermint, but I live with it because it makes my stomach feel better. Usually it doesn't last long. But if you can't have peppermint at all, then try fennel instead. Are you doing anything else for the IBS symptoms?
