Mike (et al) - yes, the salt will kill the yeast but only if it comes into direct contact with it. If you put the ingredients in the machine and turn it on right away, it should be okay. If you use the delayed or timed setting (where you put everything in the pan and then set a timer for it to come on at 2am for example) and the yeast and salt meet before any mixing starts--zappo. Dead yeast. But baking right away should be okay. When I put the yeast, salt and sugar in, they are my last ingredients. I put the sugar in one corner, the yeast in another corner and the salt in another. That way, I'm safe all 'round!

I have two bread cookbooks that I use all the time because they have such tasty and different recipes in them. They're called Electric Bread. You can find them at any bookstore and probably even on the internet. If you want a few recipes from them, I think I posted a few on the Recipe Exchange. Go to the recipe exchange and do a SEARCH at the top and then type in "Electric Bread" and the postings should pop up.
