hey everyone--
i found this in a cookbook my BF picked up in croatia while we were on vacation. there was this lady, Zlata Nanic, that was at this little food convention and she showed off her sugar-free, gluten-free, dairy-free and chocolate-free desserts as well as some other tasty treats, all which were vegan. she wrote a book about using grains and such for health and i found this on wheat and thought it would be good to post:

Quote:

"wheat is known as the indispensable cereal, and is together with rice the most important cereal in the world. but wheat is also a healing plant, if the whole grain is used. the whole grain of wheat contains 10.2% of protein, 70.7% of carbohydrates, about 2% of fats, minerals [potassium, magnesium, calcium & iron] and vitamins. according to its structure wheat germ has a unique healing power because it can help with the most different functional disturbances, and various problems of physical and mental nature [disturbances in growth, sexual disturbance, nervous weakness, neurasthenia, functional disturbance of stomach and heart, skin problems, rashes, lichens, & circulation]. regular eating of wheat germ [fresh or dry] or of whole-wheat grains acts preventively, because it gives the body the strength to fight off certain diseases in their very beginning. "therapy with cooked strained wheat" is very important for the diseases of the digestive organs. starting with the realization that harmful toxicants are constantly deposited on the walls of the GI canals, causing a series from the light to very serious gastric and intestinal diseases, one should make all the efforts to eliminate these toxicants by thorough cleansing of the stomach and of the intestines. the diet lasts, depending upon the health or the degree of the illness from 5 to 20 days. during this period, wheat slime is the only food, and should be freshly prepared every day. persons of stronger build should take .5 kg and weaker persons .75-1 kg of wheat grains. it should be cooked in water from 3-3.5 hours, until it becomes a thick liquid mass. it is then strained through a strainer in order to remove the chaff. throughout cooking, wheat should be stirred and the evaporated water replaced. only the strained wheat slim is eaten-4 plates in the course of one day [little honey may be added]. all other food is prohibited during the cure and only soft juicy fruit is allowed, cooked and prepared as compote. this diet does not weaken the body because it gets enough calories. throughout the duration of the cure, it is not necessary to take in liquids, but in spite of that, urine is abundant. as a first step the GI system gets cleansed of all the sediment, the inflammation of the intestinal wall subsides, a new intestinal mucuos membrane is created and the whole organism is liberated from toxicants. therapy with wheat slime cures the illnesses, which are marked as serious or even irremediable."

WOW!! sorry guys that that was so long--but i think its very important knowledge to have. i realize this excludes those who have sensitivites to wheat but for those who can tolerate it, perhaps this is something to think about. i met this woman and she was remarkable--in her book she tells of how she was so weak as a child, that she was sick with chickenpox, smallpox and scarlet fever twice each! and throughout her life she suffered kidney stones [which destroyed one of her kidneys] and ulcers, as well as a multitude of operations. she is vegan and i have heard of this remedy before meeting her. before my BFs brother became vegan, a korean [vegan] buddist instructed him to eat a similar oatmeal mixture and fast with it for 3-4 days in order to "purify" his body before letting only vegan food in. it worked for him--but as for me, i just started trying this lady, zlata's method. i would love to know if anyone is interested! and if anybody has any vegan questions for me, reguarding what ive posted *please ask!!* i know this would be a drastic diet for an IBSer--but at the risk of cure, it could be worth it. peace everyone~
