I am sorry to hear you have had such a battle over the years. Mine was not a good either (had a diagnosis of Crohn's, then ruptured diverticuli, three major surgeries, and four hospitalizations after that all related to constipation). Finally a diagnosis of IBS. I found Heather's information and right away it made a difference but I modified it a little for me. I eat soluable fiber almost all day long. I hardly ever go two hours without eating some type of soluable fiber (crackers, bread etc).I eat only some insoluable fiber and always eat it pureed, chopped to bits or cooked to death after eating soluable fiber. I found that taking SFS and eating lots of "roughage", which my dr. recommended only made me more constipated.
The diet is definitely something you have to play around with. Oatmeal does not sit well with me. I do much better with Cream of Wheat. I do use soy milk but have also made it in my hotel room with water when traveling. I have been generally stable for about six months (very minor flare-ups). I attribute a alot of that stability to Heather's diet, the Zelnorm, Milk of Magnesia, and exercise. (I joined Curves in April and work-out 4-6 times a week). I wish you the best of luck.
