One with interpersonal skills would be good. I don't want to sound sexist, but I've had the best luck with female doctors who all have been willing to talk and discuss everything I want to discuss without having one foot already planted right outside the door so they can leave. Some male doctors have been good, but ALL my female doctors have been good over the last 21 years. My doctor is a doctor of internal medicine--that is the only type of doctor I've seen for IBS, both in Michigan and Wyoming. They address all the internal systems linked to the GI tract.
