Now that I've discovered these boards, I'm going for broke! I wonder if anyone out there would like a virtual weight loss buddy to check in with a couple times a week via e-mail. My situation: I have GERD (with terrible esophogeal spasms) and IBS, both which have gotten a great deal worse in the past three months, despite lots of consultations, tests by my GI doc, and medications (I'm currently on aciphex for the GERD, and levibid for IBS). I'm doing Heather's diet plus all the GERD no-nos pretty rigorously. But even after a week-long attack of IBS, with nothing staying in my tummy, I barely lose a pound. Since entering perimenopause (10 years ago!! and I'm still getting my period at age 54!) I have gained 50 pounds, and been unable to make a dent in it with diet or exercise. For a while I just gave up, but now with this terribly painful reflux and bad bouts of IBS, I'd like to try again in a new spirit of non-extremism and positive, patient healthfulness. I can't stand another round with Weight Watchers, and have no use for Atkins et al. (There are plenty of things I can't eat already -- why add most carbohydrates to the list?).
So my hope is to find somebody (or bodies) in more or less the same predicament to exchange supportive, nonjudgemental messages with to see if that is helpful -- NOT swapping diets, just sharing the quest. (My sweet husband, gosh darn him, has no weight problems and most of my friends are sympathetic, but can lose that 10 extra pounds they have by just cutting out sweets!) anybody interested? it can be confidential too, rather than on a public board....
cheers all!
