Is all soy the same to a sensitive digestive tract?

I discovered, much to my chagrin, over a year ago that I cannot tolerate soy. Soy milks and cheeses made me deathly ill (extremely nauseous along with painful bloating). My physician seems to think that even though i cannot tolerate soy milks and cheeses, that i should be able to tolerate tofu. Is this true? The only source of protein i get right now is from fish at dinner or a small amount of peanut butter during the day...if i could eat tofu i would be able to get more protein into my diet! (and i LIKE tofu!)
Thanks for the help once again- you are all the greatest!
