I replied to another message, so sorry if this is repetitive. I'm also IBS-C and completely understand what you're going through. Heather's diet has not been a "cure" for me, but some of her tips have been helpful. I've been generally staying away from coffee, dairy, red meat, & high-fat foods. At first, I was eating more breads, rice, & potatoes but found those foods really do make me have more C & cramping. Now I just make sure I have smaller portions of those starches. Eating low fat does seem to help me not to cramp as much. (Also, I usually have a bowl of cereal with soy milk & flaxseed meal in it every morning.)
I was traveling with my family & decided to have a large latte from a coffee shop last night (I really do love coffee). BIG MISTAKE. Within an hour of drinking that delicious drink, I started having cramps & uncomfortable gas that lasted atleast 3 hours. This confirmed to me that Heather does have some good pointers because she would tell us to STAY AWAY from that stuff.
Even though I've altered my diet, I still have to take Miralax everyday (& occasionally Zelnorm to help things along if I get very C or uncomfortable). You might have to take medication to feel more "normal" too.
I hope you feel better soon. This IBS can be so frustrating. It aggravates me that my dh & sons can eat whatever they want any time. Sometimes I can, but I never know!
