I think it also may be related to the apple cider vinegar treatment/cure that some swear by. The juice is high in pectins and enzymes...it's not fermented the way vinegar is. It's kind of the physical effect of cleaning the body the way you might clean a kettle or a coffee pot--good for removing residue without harming the lining. At least that was my experience. The juice sort of harnesses and traps old crap/particles. You know how grannies smell clean? Just be sure to drink it straight away, before it turns brown. It's quite a "live" juice.
