I did a search for this on this board and it didn't pull up much.

I'm IBS-C and read on another board that magnesium (either caltrate or oxide - citrate is easier for your body to absorb) helps with constipation.

I was told a dosage of 400-800/day for constipation (http://www.wholehealthmd.com/print/view/1,1560,SU_890,00.html) and to also supplement that with a 2:1 ratio of calcium to magnesium.

Does anyone have any experiences with this? This is the post that I read "I would try taking 250 magnesium oxide supplement (pill form with nothing else in it) every day. I was constipated with all the IBS symptoms and the magnesium basically cured me. If you do take it, you should take calcium with it. Take calcium:magnesium 2:1. So if you take 250 mg magesium, take 500 mg calcium with it. If nothing happens, try increasing the dose to 400 mg (100% of the daily value). I would not go over this amount without consulting a doctor. It is safe to take everyday up to 400 mg and past that I don't know. It may give you a bit of diarrhea at first, but stick it out for 4 days. You may also feel a bit of dizziness. This should go away, it's just your body adjusting. If it doesn't go away, try taking half of the dose. It should definitely work, though, I hope."

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks for reading.
