Hi everyone. Looking for some support, and advice.

I have had terrible IBS-D and some -C for years, and managed it pretty well until a few weeks ago. I started having excruciatingly painful BMs, to the point where I vomited because I was in so much. I finally wound up in the emergency room last night, where they confirmed what I thought was wrong -- an external hemorrhoid. (Of course, this took six hours, and three severely painful rectal exams from three different male doctors). The surgeon who finally came to see me said he could not remove the hemorrhoid because it is too inflamed, and recommended that I take warm baths six times a day and not wipe after I go; he also prescribed me percoset for the pain. But typically, he was totally ignorant about IBS, and recommended that I increase the fiber in my diet -- which would only make things worse.

So now I'm sitting at home, unable to work, barely able to walk the dog, basically moving between the bathtub and the toilet. I have an incredibly demanding job that requires tons of travel, but there's no chance I could go to work in my current condition. And I can't eat anything but bread. I'm doing all the treatments I know -- taking Citrucel, drinking lots of tea and water -- but I'm desperate for advice from anyone who has been through this.
