I didn't know where else to put this question. Can a physical massage/deep muscle tissue hands-on work bring on a flare-up of IBS?
I have had IBS symptoms much of my life, but it has been quiet for several months. However, I have been doing Rolfing (deep muscle massage) with a professional for about 2 months, and last Monday the session was devoted to the abdomen. I was not happy about this, and rather fearful! I told the Rolfer that I had IBS, and she assured me that her work would not affect it.
Nonetheless, the next day I started having the tell tale lower left abdominal pain, followed by IBS-D symptoms that continue now a week later, even with the soluble fiber diet that I try to follow faithfully.
Anyone know if physical manipulation of the intestinal area can bring on a flare-up? the timing was very suspicious!
