Hi,

I've tried therapy. Did 9 months of it using a process called EMDR. (This site gives you details: www.wholehealthmd.com).

This process is used by some psychologists to remove the way we process traumas. (In my case it was an abusive childhood and teens.) Apparently our mind reacts to certain stimulii as if we are reliving the initial incident. As each thought has a physiological reaction, (in my case, my reactions weren't appropriate for an adult or for good health), e.g., high blood pressure and IBS. The process is supposed to allow you to finish dealing with the incident in an adult - in my case - fashion and move on.

For me it worked. I had (have I suppose because she is always there if I need her) a lovely therapist who was very understanding. She was very willing to try a number of things, but we found that EMDR really suited me.

I never went down the meds trail, however. I'm very wary about the long term affects of the drugs they like handing out, so about 6 months into the therapy, I tried Mike's IBS 100 Audio hypnotherapy program with astounding success. After completing it I waited the required 3 months (champing at the bit) and then went on to Towards Inner Peace and I can't put into words - but I'll try - how well and what a difference this has made to me. It really is well worth your while to check out the hypno page. I've only had one problem since and that was because I ate 250grams of cashews at one sitting without any soluable fibre. The attack only lasted over night and after a fairly normal bowel movement next morning, I was fine. After all these years (I'm 51), I feel like I'm finally in control.

So, very long winded and I'm sorry for that, but therapy - if you find a good, supportive therapist - and most definitely Mike's tapes are what I recommend.

Very best regards,
Bevp
