Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | Orange Juice & Candy & anything else?!!

Hi everyone. I have been consuming myself lately with getting information on ibs because after ruling out Chrohns and Celiac and lactose intolerance - my daughter has been diagnosed with ibs. She is only 6 yrs old and this has NOT been fun at all.

I have been real careful as to what to give her this week because she had a real bad bout last saturday that wouldn't calm down and she has been missing alot of school lately.

I have not allowed her any juice but now she is dying for some. (once she feels better she seems to "forget" why she can't have certain things. Again, she is only 6 yrs old and right now she is calling me a "poopy head" because I wont give her any candy. So.....she loves orange juice. Is this one of the less evil culprits?? I am not really concerned with acid reflux at this moment, I am more concerned with the diarrhea. Can oj give diarrhea??

Also, since timing is everything, and this is Halloween weekend, are there certain candies that are worse than others? Any suggestions?? Her doctor said to stay away from hard candies and lollies and gum - things containing sucrose and such but he didn't say anything about chocolate. Is one worse than the other or does it depend on the person?

As far as regular foods - So far I know she can tolerate fried chicken cutlets and steak - we had both this week and she did fine. I cut out her pb&j on whole wheat and put it on potato bread and she has done fine on that too. Any other suggestions??? I am at a loss here. I feel like I am flying blind, and again, SHE IS ONLY 6 YRS OLD!!!!!
