Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | Re: Any teachers with IBS?

I have been teaching since last December and know exactly what you are feeling. I have (on the most part) managed attacks by really being careful with my diet. I eat very little in the morning (some dry cereal) and for lunch I usually eat a snack only (pretzels, more dry cereal). However, as time has gone by I have tried eating a turkey sandwich, w/ fat free mayo only on sourdough bread and do okay. At night I have to eat early. I try not to eat later than 7pm. And of course, I take my daily dose of Immodium (I'm sure that's not so healthy, but I'm afraid to go without it.) and Citrucel. Start out with the safest foods: bread, dry cereal, rice if it is really bad, and slowly introduce other foods. And remember anxiety plays a big part. I have had times when I ate all the right things, but because I was afraid of "having to go" I really did! Do stay calm and I always tell myself that life goes on. I mean it's no fun living with fear all the time. Now I know in a classroom of kids, we think of the worst, but just be prepared as someone else said. Have a backup plan which will ease you and your stomach! Best of luck!
