Ok, so this is not to replace you dr's advice but I have done a TON of research on ad's and pregnancy. I have been on several different ad's through out the years Wellbutrin, Zoloft, Prozac and Lexapro. The last one I was on was the Lexapro and I actually liked it the best.

Last Feb. I decided to start trying to get pregnant and wanted to see if I could go without an AD. The answer was NO!! I went through 2 months of HELL. I was miserable, everyone around me was miserable. So, I started asking everyone and doing all the research I could on taking AD while pregnant. Basically, as we know, its best to not take anything while pregnant but certain AD's have had more research done on them thorugh pregnancy than others.

Prozac and Zoloft have been the most tested and seem to be pretty safe. I have opted for the zoloft as I did not like Prozac at all. Zoloft is NOT passed through breast milk so you can breast feed. The only BAD info I could find was that there MAY be a link to mothers who take AD's while pregnant and SOME learning dissabilites, mostly ADD. They have only done a few preliminary tests and its a weak link. They can not say for sure one way or the other.

The other thing I came across was this: While the newborn infants of mothers who took AD's showed to have none of the drug in there system at birth, some of these babies showed more crankiness and ridigity at birth, just for the first 24-48 hours. After the initial 24-48 hours there was no difference between the babies born to mothers who took AD's. Again, this was a preliminary test and there is no actual proof, one way or the other.

I have talked with many pregnant women on different pregnancy boards and several OBGYN's and I can assure you that there are quite a few women pregnant and on AD's. The key is, you have to weigh the benefit to the mother versus the possible harm to the baby. In my case, I decided the benefit outweighed the risks.

I feel it is much better to have a happy, healthy, stable mom on AD's, than a non-functional, panick stricten, crying all the time mom!

Anyway, there is most of what I know on the subject! Feel free to ask any other questions about it and if I know, I'll be happy to share whatever info I have!
