I've had IBS for about 15 years. I started having it my last year in college. I had just gone over having Pnemonia. The antibiotics I took for it made me get really sick and made me vomit green. After getting rid of Pnemonia I starting having loose bowels. That were very painful.

It really effected my daily work and caused me to lose concentration.

I was told I had IBS, the doctor said exercise and take fiber treatments. Well those fiber treatments only made things worse. I then went to an alergist. I found that milk products ,beef, peanut butter caused me to get sick fast.
The brat diet they put you on stoped my pains in their tracks it was actually a great idea. They start you off drinking grape fruit and eating turkey plain. Slowly adding foods you get better pretty quick. I started eating turkey burgers for a year instead of beef burgers. After a year I slowly ate some of the items I had trouble with. For a few years I kept it under control doing this. But still had attacks weekly. The doctors kept subscribing IBS medications. None of them worked it was like dumping money down the toliet. I would take them for a week and have 3 weeks left in the bottle. Then theres the lactose is the solution crowd. Forget that!!! more money down the drain.

After all the testing they just told me I had IBS. Go do yoga and drink metamucil. Have you ever tried to exercise when you feel like crap all day long?

I kept it under control for many years just avoiding most of the things that effected me. I still had weekly problems.

In January 2004 my stomach was giving me really bad problems. Bad stomach runs like the first year of my IBS symptoms. I did'nt change my eating habits and could not figure out what was going on. I had tried to add more fiber for breakfest and wonder if that may be part of the problem now.

A new doctor thought I might have had a stomach infection of some kind. He prescribed me Flagyl. The pills taste awful. They aren't coated. But one day after taking these antibiotics. My stomach cramps vanished and my IBS seemed to have disappeared. I took the pills religiously for 10 days 3 times a day. I had normal bowel movements during that time and for a few weeks after. Then it came back again.

This time a friend of mine told me he had problems for 2 year and he just started taking Amodium AD everytime he ate a few months then stoped taking the AD and now he can eat anything.

I tried that did'nt work for for me. It only moved the problem up a day or two.

Got back on the Flagyl and I'm into my first week after the 10 day treatment. Only had one IBS problem so far.

I don't know why antibiotics seems to be stopping my IBS. I'm told I could have an ulcer but tests say no. I'm going to try Heathers ideas to see if I can control it from here.

Maybe you guys should try Flagyl once to see if it affects you?

Its amazing how tough it is to get good treatment for this problem. All these years and they still try the same useless procedures.
