Hi,
I tried some of the "Best of Both" bread on Friday lunch-time and Saturday morning. About 5 minutes after my Saturday lunch my abdomen became really bloated and I spent the afternoon suffering from terrible gas. All other foods eaten on Friday and Saturday were tried and tested so it is unlikely that anything else was the cause.
My IBS has always been bloating and gas predominant, but these days that is rarely an issue. (Thank you Heather!) I couldn't tell you exactly when I last felt so ill, but I've kept a detailed diary for the last 2 months and it hasn't happened during that time. although the bloating eased after a few hours, today (Tuesday) is the first time I've really started to feel comfortable again.
Looking at the ingredients for the Best of Both bread, not only does it contain wheatgerm, but it also contains wheat bran! Needless to say that I'm back on the standard white bread and have thrown out the rest of the other loaf.
What really shocked me on Saturday was the reminder of how quickly I've forgotten what my IBS used to be like. In the past a flare up like that could last for days or even weeks. As I'm sure you will all appreciate, it was often not knowing when things would improve that caused me so much despair. Not this time though! On Saturday afternoon I worked out my meal plan of extra safe foods for the next 3 days and knew that by Wednesday everything would be under control again. Heather, I say it again, Thank You , Thank You, Thank You!
Ian
