Just fyi for all out there. . . After going to 3 different GI's for over a 6 year period, I was told there was nothing they could do for me (couldn't do their drugs, had horrible reactions!). So, I searched the web and found Dr. Weil who suggested macro for my problem. I was on the macrobiotic "way of eating" for 1 year and was completely normal. By the way, this was before I was diagnosed with IBS. Macro was very difficult to stick with and 6 months after I went off of the "diet", I started back with my IBS-D symtoms. Anyway, if anyone is really desperate, as I was, this is a good way to go. I recommend the book, "The Macrobiotic Way" by Michio Kushi. It is a whole philosophy on eating and changing your way of life. I really needed a support group, which I had in Atlanta but since moving to the mountains I found it hard to follow.
I still eat some foods now and recommend a wonderful tea that helps with bloating and relaxing the colon. It's going to sound weird but you can order this stuff through health food magazines.
1/2 Ume boshi plum tablespoon of kuzu shoyu to tast mix up the kuzu with a little water to dilute and boil in water with the plum, then just pour a little shoyu in there. It didn't taste goog to me at first but now I enjoy it and it really helps.
Have a nice day!
Wendy
