The last time I made it, I just omitted the cloves. (I'm not allergic, but ground cloves are expensive and I didn't have the $ to buy it.) If you're concerned about the taste, bump up the cinnamon a little, or maybe try cardamom (I've done that, but I LOVE cardamom, so...). But it should be fine just omitting.
